The Roblox Corporation has released its financial report for 2024, showing significant growth in revenue and engagement, but still operating at billion-dollar losses. With a significant increase in the number of daily active users, the platform continues to consolidate its position in the market while investing in technology, AI, and global expansion.

Roblox's numbers in 2024

The financial data shows a positive year for the company, with increased revenue and reduced losses compared to 2023.

Fourth quarter (Q4 2024)

  • Revenue: $988.2 million (+32% YoY)
  • Bookings: $1.36 billion (+21% YoY)
  • Net loss: $218.4 million (decrease from $325 million in the same period of 2023)

Fiscal year 2024

  • Revenue: $3.6 billion (+29% YoY)
  • Bookings: $4.36 billion (+24% YoY)
  • Net loss: $935.5 million (decrease from $1.16 billion in 2023)

The CEO and founder of Roblox, David Baszucki, celebrated the growth:

"We had a strong year, driven by our commitment to innovation and community. Our goal is to support 10% of the global gaming market, and we will continue to invest in virtual economy, app performance, and AI-based discovery and security."

The platform recorded a 19% growth in daily active users, reaching 85.3 million in the fourth quarter. Total engagement time also increased by 21%, reaching 18.7 billion hours played in the year.

Another relevant data point was the growth in the number of paying users. During Q4, Roblox had 18.9 million unique monthly payers, with an average spending of $23.97 per user.

The company attributes this increase to the strategy of offering its virtual currency, Robux, on lower-cost platforms at the end of 2024.

Despite the growth, Roblox faces challenges of difficult comparison with previous periods, mainly due to the expansion to PlayStation and a major update on Xbox in October 2023. Additionally, a significant volume of prepaid card purchases in November 2023 impacted the projections.

For 2025, the company estimates:

  • Revenue between $4.24 billion and $4.34 billion
  • Bookings between $5.2 billion and $5.3 billion
  • Net loss between $995 million and $1.07 billion

While Roblox maintains a rapid pace of growth, its financial sustainability still raises questions. Will the company be able to turn this increase in users into real profitability?
