Resident Evil Code: Veronica Remake will arrive in 2027
Capcom plans to maintain the strategy of alternating new releases with updated versions of its classics. According to information shared on January 19, 2026 by informant Dusk Golem, the next title to receive the technical reconstruction treatment will be Resident Evil Code: Veronica, with a planned release for 2027. The official announcement is expected to occur in the first semester of 2026, possibly during the franchise's 30-year celebrations in March, surpassing the expectations of those waiting for a new version of Resident Evil 5.
The choice of Code: Veronica is a positive point for the narrative cohesion of the series. Originally released in 2000 for the Sega Dreamcast, the title is technically the direct sequel to the events of Resident Evil 2, focusing on the journey of Claire Redfield. The transition to modern graphic engines, such as the RE Engine, will allow for the correction of gameplay limitations in the original work, which was the first major game of the brand not to be initially released for Sony's PlayStation.
"The voice actress of Sheva will be present at the celebrations, but it will not be to announce the remake of Resident Evil 5. The next remake is Code: Veronica, which will arrive in 2027, but will be announced in 2026."
However, Capcom's release schedule is subject to severe criticism. It is regrettable that the public has to wait until 2027 to access an updated version of a game from 2000, while the company prioritizes parallel projects of questionable quality. The rumor about Resident Evil Requiem, described as a multiplayer open-world game, suggests a diversion of technical resources that could be applied to accelerate the development of the main remakes, avoiding such extensive waiting periods between major titles.
Despite the reliability of Dusk Golem, who anticipated details about the presence of Leon S. Kennedy in recent projects, Capcom's fragmentation of attention into multiple simultaneous titles may compromise the final polish. The insistence on releasing online experiences before consolidating the most requested remakes by the community demonstrates a portfolio management that prioritizes temporary market trends over the technical legacy of the series.
