Remake of Until Dawn may arrive on PS Plus in May, suggests leak on PS Store
While the next update of PS Plus Essential is scheduled for May 6, 2025, a discovery made by users on Reddit suggests that Sony Interactive Entertainment may have anticipated one of its big surprises: the remake of Until Dawn for PlayStation 5 may be one of the news of the month.
Several players reported seeing an advertisement on the PlayStation Store indicating Until Dawn as part of the free games of the service, although Sony has not made an official announcement yet. The move wouldn't be exactly a surprise: the release of the Until Dawn movie in theaters recently, and including the remake in PS Plus would be a natural strategy to increase interest in both the movie and the franchise.
Originally released in 2015 for PS4, Until Dawn was produced by Supermassive Games and quickly became a cult title for its mix of cinematic horror and choice-based gameplay. In 2024, Sony released the remake for PS5 and PC, bringing updated graphics, improvements in mechanics, and full support for the new console technologies, such as Ray Tracing and haptic feedback via DualSense.
The remake maintained the core of the narrative, where a group of friends faces horrors during a gathering in the mountains, but refined the presentation to meet the standards of the new generation of consoles. The introduction of the game on PS Plus — if confirmed — would include the title in all three subscription levels: Essential, Extra, and Premium.
"Until Dawn is one of the most iconic games of the PS4 era, and its arrival on PS Plus now, aligned with the movie release, makes perfect sense to strengthen the PlayStation ecosystem," commented a user on the Reddit thread.
It is worth noting that Sony has been heavily investing in adapting its franchises for film and TV, as we have seen previously with The Last of Us and Gran Turismo. If Until Dawn is indeed included in the May catalog, it will follow this aggressive strategy of synergy between media.
So far, we must wait for the official confirmation — which should happen in the next few days, along with the full announcement of the May games on the PlayStation Blog.
