Take-Two Interactive, the giant of the gaming industry responsible for the best-selling game of all time, Grand Theft Auto V, is facing recent challenges. Despite the success of GTA V and with GTA VI on the horizon, the company recently announced a 5% workforce reduction, along with project cancellations.

Internal documents reveal that Take-Two plans to close the developers Roll7 and Intercept Games. Roll7, known for titles like OlliOlli and Rollerdrome, was acquired by Take-Two in 2021. Although sales numbers are not precise, it seems that Rollerdrome did not meet expectations, leading to the closure of Roll7, which had 50 to 60 employees.

Intercept Games, responsible for Kerbal Space Program 2, is also being affected. KSP2 was transferred from Star Theory Games to Intercept Games, with many Star Theory employees involved. Although Take-Two claims it will continue updating the game, it is not clear who will be involved in the process.

The decision by Take-Two raises concerns about its excessive focus on GTA and the future of smaller games. Independent developers should carefully consider partnerships with the company, given the uncertainty surrounding its projects.

As for Roll7 favorites, titles like OlliOlli and Rollerdrome stood out. As for the Kerbal Space Program 2, the future remains uncertain, generating concerns among fans about the continuous development of the game.

The situation highlights the challenges faced by gaming companies, regardless of their size, and the importance of a strategic approach to ensure long-term success.
