PUBG Battlegrounds, one of the most popular battle royales in history, achieved the highest profit of its existence in 2024, according to data released by Krafton. The company revealed that players spent an impressive €666 million (around $720 million) on the PC and console versions, further consolidating the success of the game seven years after its release.

Originally launched in 2017, PUBG revolutionized the battle royale genre, serving as the foundation for titles like Fortnite and Apex Legends. However, it was the change to free-to-play in 2022 that truly boosted the game's growth, attracting new players and increasing engagement.

In 2024, the game reached its highest peak of concurrent players since launch, reaching an impressive 890,000 users connected at the same time.

The CEO of Krafton, Kim Chang-han, highlighted that the success is partly due to strategic collaborations with various brands within the game. These partnerships helped boost the sales of skins and cosmetic items, especially on PC and consoles.

PUBG Mobile and the Asian market

In addition to the main version, PUBG Mobile also saw significant growth, with a 35.7% increase in revenue compared to the previous year. The standout was Battlegrounds Mobile India, which recorded sales records, establishing itself as one of the leading titles in the Asian mobile market.

The success of the mobile version reinforces the importance of the franchise for Krafton, which has been heavily investing in expanding the game to different markets and formats.

The company does not intend to stop there. According to Kim Chang-han, Krafton's strategy goes beyond PUBG, aiming to expand its presence in the global gaming market.

"As we continue to expand the PUBG IP, we will accelerate the discovery of a new franchise to further strengthen our competitive advantage in the global gaming market," stated the CEO.

In addition, the company has been investing in AI technologies to enhance its future gaming experiences, promising innovations that go beyond the battle royale.

With records being broken and continuous growth, PUBG Battlegrounds proves that it still has a long way to go. The next big step for Krafton in the gaming scene remains to be seen.
