PS Plus Essential for June brings 4 games, but divides opinions
Sony confirmed the titles that will be available at the PS Plus Essential level in June 2025, and the list of games marks the beginning of the Days of Play event, which starts this Tuesday, May 28. Subscribers will have access to four games, including a highly anticipated expansion, two relatively recent releases, and a praised indie game, but the selection raises discussions about the balance between new releases and catalog reuse.
The highlight in terms of chronology is Destiny 2: The Final Shape, which will be released on the same day May 28 for PS4 and PS5, before the other games of the month. The expansion marks the conclusion of the long saga of Light and Darkness, started back in 2014, with new narrative content, weapons, subclasses, and the addition of the new location Pale Heart of the Traveler. The narrative focuses on the confrontation against The Witness, promising to conclude the main story arc of Destiny 2 after almost a decade.
On June 3, the other titles will arrive:
NBA 2K25 | PS5, PS4
New entry in the famous basketball franchise by 2K Sports, with gameplay improvements and renewed modes. There is still no confirmation about the type of edition available to subscribers (Standard, Deluxe, etc.), which can impact the perceived value of the game in the service.
Alone in the Dark (2024) | PS5
Reimagining of the classic survival horror game by THQ Nordic, developed by Pieces Interactive, the game brings a noir atmosphere set in the southern United States, with modern mechanics and two playable protagonists: Edward Carnby (voiced by David Harbour) and Emily Hartwood (Jodie Comer).
Bomb Rush Cyberfunk | PS5, PS4
The praised indie game by Team Reptile, heavily inspired by Jet Set Radio, mixes urban exploration, stylized combat, and a remarkable soundtrack. Originally released in 2023, the game caught attention for its cel-shading visuals and mechanics centered on graffiti and parkour.
Unlike previous months — like May, which brought EA Sports FC 24 and pleased a broad base of players —, the June selection seems to focus more on niche titles and an expansion rather than universal appeal blockbusters. The inclusion of Destiny 2: The Final Shape is relevant, but may generate resistance among those who have already abandoned the base game or do not follow the franchise.
All games can be redeemed by Essential plan subscribers until the end of June, with the download available on the respective release dates. The expectation now falls on the announcements of the games from the Extra and Deluxe plans, which should be disclosed in the coming weeks within the Days of Play 2025 schedule.
