Producer of Monster Hunter takes over leadership of Capcom studios
Ryozo Tsujimoto will be the new head of the company's development divisions
The Capcom is experiencing a spectacular moment, driven by the massive success of Monster Hunter Wilds, which broke records by selling 8 million copies in just three days. And now, the man behind this success, Ryozo Tsujimoto, has just been promoted to Chief Production Officer (CPO) of the company, a position that puts him in charge of all of Capcom's development divisions.
A new era for Capcom
With the departure of Yoichi Egawa from the position, Tsujimoto will officially assume his new role starting on April 1, 2025. The change means that he will be responsible not only for the future of Monster Hunter, but also for iconic franchises like Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Devil May Cry, Mega Man, and Dragon’s Dogma.
Tsujimoto has been working at Capcom since 1996, when he began his career developing arcade games. His involvement with the Monster Hunter franchise started with the original title for PlayStation 2, released in 2004, and since then he has become the main creative figure of the series, helping to turn it into a global phenomenon.
Promotion or nepotism?
Although the success of Monster Hunter justifies Tsujimoto's rise, some fans have raised discussions about a possible case of nepotism. This is because the new CPO is the son of Kenzo Tsujimoto, founder and current CEO of Capcom, and his brother, Haruhito Tsujimoto, holds the position of COO at the company.
Despite these speculations, it is undeniable that Tsujimoto has a solid track record of leadership and has delivered impressive results in recent years. Now, it remains to be seen how he will guide the next steps of Capcom, which is in one of the most prosperous periods of its history.
