PlayStation expands use of the Decima Engine in new projects
The Decima Engine, a graphics engine developed by Guerrilla Games and used in titles like Horizon Forbidden West, may be adopted by more PlayStation studios in future projects. The revelation came from Astrid Huntjens, senior producer at Guerrilla since April 2024, who confirmed she is assisting other teams within the company in using the technology.
Among the studios that may be using the Decima Engine is Bend Studio. According to the LinkedIn profile of former senior designer Mathew Seymour, the graphics engine was used in the development of an unannounced project. Concept artist Hung Nguy, also from Bend Studio, mentioned on ArtStation that the title is scheduled for release in 2025.
The resume of Alexander Manresa, lead technical animator, also provided more technical information. He highlighted the use of motion matching, a technique that enhances animation transitions, providing greater fluidity. This feature has already been used in games like The Last of Us Part II and Half-Life: Alyx, raising realism standards.
With the Decima Engine gaining ground within PlayStation Studios, it is expected that the technology will continue to be a central tool for cutting-edge visual experiences, in line with the brand's commitment to delivering high-quality games.
