Overwatch 2 removes one of its competitive modes!

Overwatch 2 has made several moves and is preparing innovations for the hero shooter that has been losing some players, however Blizzard Entertainment has some ideas. The first one is to change some parts of the balancing in one of the recent modes, called Clash, which was added in season 12.

As director Aaron Keller describes, the mode was inspired by the capture maps of two points from the original hero shooter game and was created to give players a mode in which they could quickly switch between attacking and defending objectives. However, after player feedback, Blizzard Entertainment decided to temporarily remove it from ranked play in season 15.

In a new Director's Take blog, Keller says that the team wants to reexamine the Clash mode and see if they can make it fairer. He notes in his article that the mode seems unbalanced compared to the rest of the game.

If one team can steamroll the other and maintain that pace, a Clash match can end almost as quickly as it began. This is different from most modes in Overwatch 2 where, even if you start the match on the wrong foot, you feel that regrouping with your team for a coordinated push can still win the round.

While the team decides what changes they want to make, Clash will remain in quick play rotation, which means you can still play the mode if you're not trying to climb the ranks. Fans seem quite excited about this, as many found Clash unbalanced and frustrating. Keller's full explanation says the following:

Speaking of game modes, we'd like to take a moment to talk about what to expect from Clash in Quick Play and Competitive. Last year, we introduced Clash, which was inspired by the original Assault maps, but gave players the chance to attack and defend during the course of the match.

Clash had some really good matches, but we also saw a lot of constructive feedback. Right now, Clash has some issues, with some matches having team steamrolls and ending much faster than a typical Overwatch game.

It can also be confusing which point is active for some players. So, starting from Season 15, Clash maps will be removed from Competitive Play, as we have spent time looking at these maps and working to find ways to offer the best Competitive experience for all our players. We'll keep you updated on the progress we make there. In the meantime, we'll keep Clash in Quick Play and other non-ranked game modes.

On February 18, we will have the arrival of season 15 of Overwatch 2, and this is sure to bring more news and an event is on the way on day 12, being the Overwatch Spotlight. Blizzard Entertainment has some promises and bringing innovations to this event is very important to compete against its main competitor, Marvel Rivals, from the Chinese NetEase.
