Orlando Bloom wants to return to The Hunt for Gollum
With the confirmation of the return of actors like Ian McKellen and Elijah Wood in the new movie The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, the expectation now turns to Orlando Bloom. The actor, who played the elf Legolas, revealed his desire to return to the role in an interview, but admitted that he has not been contacted yet.
The production of The Hunt for Gollum, which will be set between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, already has the return of Ian McKellen as Gandalf and Elijah Wood as Frodo confirmed. The film, which will focus on the search for the iconic Gollum, also has Andy Serkis confirmed in the lead role.
Orlando Bloom, now at 48 years old, said in an interview with Today, via EW, that "I would hate to see anyone else play Legolas, you know what I mean?". The actor, who had already said in June that he would "absolutely" return to the role if invited, also commented on the possibility of using AI for digital rejuvenation, a topic he considers necessary to return to the character. Despite returning for The Hobbit films, Bloom says that, "I haven't heard a peep, actually."
The team behind The Hunt for Gollum plans to start filming in New Zealand next year, with the release date set for December 17, 2027. The return of original cast members is a victory for fans of the franchise.
