The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), once the largest gaming convention held annually, has officially come to an end, as announced by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA).
ESA President Stanley Pierre-Louis stated that, while it is difficult to bid farewell to such a beloved event, it is the right decision in light of new opportunities for the gaming industry to connect with fans and partners.
The official E3 website now displays a farewell message, thanking for over two decades of memories and acknowledging the end of the event. The decline of E3 began in 2018 when Sony Interactive Entertainment withdrew, followed by other exhibitors over the years.
The last in-person E3 took place in 2019, allowing public attendance, but since then, challenges have grown. Plans for digital events in 2020 and 2021 were impacted by COVID-19 concerns, and attempts at revitalization were canceled in 2022 and 2023.
The closure of E3 marks the end of an era in the gaming industry as the ESA acknowledges the changes and emerging opportunities to connect with the audience and gaming community in innovative ways.
