Oblivion Remastered goes viral with bizarre faces and reignites Fallout nostalgia
It couldn't be different: the release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has already started yielding memes and fun in the community. As soon as the remaster developed by Virtuos using the Unreal Engine 5 arrived, the character creator became an endless source of hilarious "abominations" — just like in the old days of Bethesda.
Oblivion Remastered arrived promising (and delivering) robust improvements. The game now runs in 4K at 60 frames per second, with overhauls in important areas such as progression systems, character creation, combat animations, and even internal menus. New dialogues, a smoother third-person view, and an updated lip-syncing system were also added. It's no wonder that many fans already point out: "it's more of a remake than a remaster."
Bethesda, however, made a point to explain why they preferred to sell the project as a remaster. Still, the improved visuals didn't prevent the return of a classic element of the series: the good old facial "jank."
Character creation, famous for its questionable faces, kept its tradition, quickly invading social media. Oblivion Remastered had barely been out for 24 hours when it was already collecting montages and videos of the most unimaginably bizarre characters. As observant veterans pointed out, some of these faces resemble the "talking heads" from Fallout in the 90s — stiff expressions, wide eyes, and a charm that's almost intentional.
According to fans:
"What would a big Bethesda release be without its traditional weird faces? It wouldn't be the same."
Despite the fun, the numbers also show seriousness: on Steam, the game recorded over 180,000 concurrent players on launch day — and the expectation is that this number will grow even more over the first weekend.
Furthermore, for those who want to delve into the content, complete guides are already available, including interactive maps, step-by-step guides for main and guild quests, tips for building the perfect character, and essential activities to start off well in the remaster.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered truly marks the triumphant return of one of Bethesda's most beloved gems — complete with nostalgia, unintentional humor, and many faces no one will forget.
