Oblivion Remastered continues without updates after one month of release

One month after the surprise release of Oblivion Remastered, players are still waiting for promised — and necessary — updates. Since it arrived on digital stores on April 29, 2025, the title has been criticized for technical flaws that affect the experience, including performance issues, unfixed old bugs, and even new errors introduced in the remastered version.

The new edition of the classic The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, developed by Virtuos in partnership with Bethesda, was released without warning, relying on nostalgic appeal. Indeed, the feeling of revisiting Cyrodiil still enchants franchise veterans, but the performance of the remaster fell short of expectations.

On April 29, the release date, Bethesda stated that they were "collecting feedback from the community" to implement future improvements.

"The teams are analyzing player reports and preparing the next patches based on this feedback," the publisher declared at the time.

Since then, no updates have been released, not even a roadmap or official estimate of fixes. For many players, this shows a disregard for the current state of the game, as the remaster suffers from frequent framerate drops, memory leaks, and general instability, regardless of the platform.

The absence of regular updates is particularly critical when compared to the current industry standard, where major studios often release hotfixes or patches shortly after the launch of their titles. In the case of Oblivion Remastered, it has been four full weeks without any visible progress.

Despite speculation that the developers are "taking longer to deliver a more robust patch," the community is showing increasing frustration, as seen in forums like Reddit and in the game's official channel.

It is worth noting that the remastered version of Oblivion was included in the The Elder Scrolls: Anthology Enhanced package, alongside reworked versions of other games in the series. While titles like Skyrim Anniversary Edition have undergone various post-launch adjustments and optimizations, Oblivion remains stagnant in a problematic state.

With no clear response from Bethesda or Virtuos, and with an increasingly impatient audience, the future of the remaster of one of the most iconic RPGs of the 2000s remains uncertain — raising questions not only about the current development, but also about how nostalgic re-releases should be handled technically in the current industry landscape.
