No Man's Sky gains full support on Switch 2 and Beacon update
Hello Games is expanding the scope of No Man's Sky even further, this time focusing on two fronts: the release of the new version for Nintendo Switch 2 and the arrival of the free update Beacon. Both novelties are available between June 4 and 5, 2025, marking another important technical step for the title that, since its tumultuous beginning in 2016, has undergone more than 30 major free updates.
The new version of No Man's Sky for the Switch 2 comes with a more robust technical package than that presented in the original game release for the Switch in 2022. According to the studio, the game now runs at 1080p at 40 fps in portable mode and reaches 1440p at 30 fps in docked mode, with improvements in the density of elements in generated worlds, higher level of graphic detail, better overall performance, and reduced loading times.
In addition to the visual leap, the Switch 2 version finally offers features that were previously missing, such as multiplayer mode, colonization system, cross-save, and cross-play. These additions put the Nintendo experience on the same level as other platforms, allowing players to switch between PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Steam Deck, original Switch, and virtual reality devices like PSVR and PCVR, with continuous progress.
Simultaneously, the Beacon update, released on June 4, is also now available for all platforms. This new expansion significantly revamps the colonization system. Now, players can manage multiple settlements, instead of just one. Each colony can be customized with advanced structures, ship trades, fishing areas, and unique citizens, with distinct stories and abilities. Additionally, it will be possible to recruit local guards and defenses to protect settlements from external threats.
This move demonstrates Hello Games' continued commitment to keeping No Man's Sky evolving. Even after over eight years since its original release, the game continues to expand its scope and player base — now, with full support for a new generation of portable hardware.
