Nightreign leads pre-orders on Steam before its release

With a release date set for May 29, 2025, Elden Ring: Nightreign, a new experience within the Soulslike universe of FromSoftware, is already showing its strength before even reaching the hands of players. The title, distributed by Bandai Namco, has reached the top of the list of the most profitable games on Steam, Valve's digital platform for PC.

Despite its focus on cooperative multiplayer — a significant departure from the solo and punishing journey that made Elden Ring (2022) successful — the new project has not driven away the fan base. According to data from the Valve store, Nightreign has surpassed titles like Helldivers 2, Fantasy Life i, and Tainted Grail, as well as other premium releases that were competing for the top spot in terms of revenue.

“Currently, Elden Ring: Nightreign is the game that is generating the most money [on Steam],” recent platform data reveals.

In the PlayStation Store, the scenario is a bit different. The most pre-ordered title on PS5 is F1 25, but Nightreign appears right after with its Deluxe Edition in 2nd place and the Standard Edition in 4th place, just behind Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.

Although there are still doubts about the full scope of the experience — since Nightreign has not yet received as many playable previews as is common in releases of this scale — the track record of quality from FromSoftware, combined with the legacy of Elden Ring, seems to be enough to boost consumer confidence.

Elden Ring: Nightreign is described as a cooperative game set in the same dark and mythological universe as the original title, but with progression and combat structures geared towards multiple simultaneous players. Bandai Namco has not yet revealed the maximum number of participants per session, nor if there will be crossplay integration between platforms.

Even with these information gaps, the performance in pre-orders demonstrates the weight of the Elden Ring brand, one of the biggest releases of the past generation with over 20 million units sold by 2023.

More details are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks, especially with the approaching release date, set for May 29 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
