New Uncharted? Naughty Dog has been working on a mysterious game for three years
Unannounced project may be under the direction of franchise veteran
Three years ago, Naughty Dog developed a mysterious game without revealing any details to the public. According to insider DanielRPK, this project is not The Last of Us Part III and may be in the hands of Shaun Escayg, creative director of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.
With the future of the The Last of Us franchise still uncertain, the studio seems to be focusing its efforts in other directions. The studio's director Neil Druckmann himself has stated that "each project will be evaluated as it arises", indicating that the future of the series starring Ellie and Joel is not guaranteed.
Currently, the only confirmed game in the studio's pipeline is Intergalactic, a new intellectual property that is being developed internally. But this other title, which remains shrouded in secrecy, has generated speculation among fans.
Is Uncharted coming back?
Since Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (2016) and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy (2017) concluded Nathan Drake's saga, rumors of a new chapter in the franchise have never ceased. The presence of Shaun Escayg in this project further fuels these theories, as the director played a key role in the spin-off starring Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross.
Another rumor that has been circulating for years suggests that Naughty Dog could be working on a game starring Cassie Drake, Nathan's daughter introduced in the epilogue of Uncharted 4. Interestingly, actress Kaitlyn Dever, who played Cassie in the game, was cast to portray Abby in the second season of The Last of Us on HBO. Coincidence?
What to expect from Naughty Dog in the coming years?
Currently, Naughty Dog has not officially confirmed this mysterious game, focusing entirely on Intergalactic and content related to The Last of Us. Meanwhile, fans speculate whether the studio is indeed preparing the grand return of Uncharted, now with a new generation of treasure hunters.
Whatever this secret title may be, it has been in production for three years and promises to be one of Sony's major releases in the coming years. We can only wait for an official announcement to find out if Nathan Drake will finally leave his retirement – or if Cassie will take on the family legacy.
