New Switch will have exclusive new games until 2026, but the debut is timid.
Contrary to its previous releases, Nintendo decided to adopt a more restrained strategy for the beginning of the Switch 2 generation. Instead of launching multiple exclusive titles right away, the new console will hit the market on June 5, 2025 with only one first-party unreleased game: Mario Kart World. The new main entry in the franchise since Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (2017) will bring open-world tracks and vibrant visuals, but will have to hold fans' attention alone at launch.
In addition to this flagship, Nintendo plans to release other exclusives throughout 2025 and 2026, including:
Kirby Air Riders - sequel to the GameCube classic, directed by Masahiro Sakurai, with few details revealed.
Donkey Kong Bananza - set for July 17, 2025, mixing platforming with scenery destruction and underground exploration.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment - set in the universe of Tears of the Kingdom, serving as a prelude to the "War of Confinement".
Survival Kids - focusing on cooperation, crafting, and puzzle-solving, also set to launch on June 5, 2025.
Drag x Drive - a competitive game with wheelchairs that uses the new mouse-like control system of the Joy-Con 2, set for the summer of 2025.
The Duskbloods - an exclusive FromSoftware project for the Switch 2 so far, set for 2026, with over a dozen customizable characters.
The releases also include reissues and remasters with exclusive content for the new hardware:
Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster - graphical improvements, new interfaces, and minigames with a mouse.
Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut - new scenes, English dubbing, and the Red Light Raid online mode.
Super Mario Party Jamboree + Jamboree TV: Switch 2 Edition - arriving on July 24 with new modes and minigames.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land: Star-Crossed World - version with graphical upgrades and new "Mouthful" modes.
Interestingly, Nintendo will also charge a US$ 10 fee for access to the Switch 2 Welcome Tour, a "technical demo" to showcase the functions of the new console. While uncommon, the charge may indicate the company's focus on immersive experiences, even if paid.
It is worth noting that highly anticipated titles like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokémon Legends: Z-A are not included in the list, as they will also be available on the original Switch. Nintendo promises more announcements in the coming months — but for now, their next console starts off conservatively.
