New graphic engine, 60fps and exclusive mode: everything that changed in Days Gone Remastered on PS5
The PS5 version of Days Gone Remastered was reviewed by Digital Foundry, and the technical verdict points to a solid and careful work by Bend Studio. Far from just being a re-release with higher resolution, the game received deep changes — especially in the lighting — and relevant performance improvements for the new generation.
According to the analysis, the main technical highlight is the introduction of a new lighting engine, which drastically changes the visual aspect of the game. The more diffused light, dense shadows, and atmospheric effects reinforce the dark atmosphere of the post-apocalyptic world. Digital Foundry states:
“The new lighting completely alters the mood, offering a more cinematic and realistic look.”

In terms of performance, Days Gone Remastered runs at 60 frames per second (fps) with occasional small drops. Bend Studio confirmed that they are developing a 40fps mode with VRR (variable refresh rate) support, allowing for more stability for those using compatible screens.
The re-release also includes the new Horde Assault mode, which adds new challenges with larger enemy hordes, increasing the difficulty and replay value. This additional content is part of the update package, which costs US$10 for those who own the original PS4 version.
Originally released in 2019, Days Gone had a mixed reception from critics, but gained a loyal fan base. Now, with the remastered version, the game joins the list of remasters that truly take advantage of the technical power of the PlayStation 5.
