Enthusiasts of Baldur's Gate received surprising news when Larian Studios, the developer behind Baldur's Gate 3, announced that they would not be developing the next game in the series. This decision left many wondering how any developer could refuse the opportunity to work on such a prestigious franchise.

According to Eugene Evans, senior vice president of digital strategy and licensing at Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro, the owner of the franchise rights, the company is actively seeking new partners to continue the Baldur's Gate saga. Evans revealed that after the historic achievement of Baldur's Gate 3 at the BAFTA, where it won all five major GOTY awards, they are in talks with various development studios.

"We are now in talks with many partners and being approached by many partners who are embracing the challenge of what the future of the Baldur's Gate franchise will be," said Evans. "We certainly hope it won't be another 25 years, as it was from Baldur's Gate 2 to 3 before we answer that. But we will take our time and find the right partner, the right approach, and the right product that can represent the future of Baldur's Gate."

With the search for a new developer underway, fans can expect an exciting future for the Baldur's Gate series, as Wizards of the Coast seeks to ensure that the next chapter of the franchise upholds the legacy of excellence established by previous games.
