Sony has unveiled its latest PlayStation 5 product, an updated model of the console set to release in November 2023. This new SKU showcases a compact and modular design, allowing players to choose whether they want the disc drive included or purchase it separately.
The new PS5 has been reduced in volume by over 30%, earning it the moniker of a "Slim", Its side panels have been split into four, with the top two sporting a glossy finish and the bottom two maintaining a regular matte finish. Players can choose to purchase the new PS5 model with or without the disc drive already connected, and the disc drive will also be sold separately, offering flexibility to users.
A notable change is the increase in storage capacity, featuring a built-in 1 TB SSD, enabling players to store more games and content.
Sony confirmed that the new PS5 will be available in retail stores in November, including participating retailers and their own PlayStation Direct online store. Furthermore, the new version will replace the original model, becoming the sole option available once stock of the launch models is depleted.
Interestingly, Sony will include a horizontal stand in the box, allowing the new PS5 to be displayed horizontally. However, a "compatible with all PS5 models" vertical stand will be sold separately, so the new PS5 can only be placed horizontally.
