Mortal Kombat 1 receives definitive edition with all DLCs
Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition is now available in digital format for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, bringing together in one package the base game, all post-launch updates, and the content from the two Kombat Packs, as well as exclusive skins based on the franchise's movies.
The definitive edition costs US$ 70 on Sony, Microsoft, and PC platforms, while on Nintendo Switch the price is reduced to US$ 60. For those who already own the base game, there is an upgrade option, but the cost is considerable: US$ 60 for PS5 and Xbox Series, and US$ 50 on PC.
The complete package includes:
- Mortal Kombat 1 (base game)
- Khaos Reigns (story expansion)
- Kombat Pack 1: Quan Chi, Ermac, Takeda Takahashi, Omni-Man, Peacemaker, and Homelander
- Kombat Pack 1 Fighters: Tremor, Khameleon, Janet Cage, Mavado, and Ferra
- Kombat Pack 2: Cyrax, Sektor, Noob Saibot, Ghostface, Conan the Barbarian, and T-1000 Terminator
- Kombat Pack 2 Fighter: Madam Bo
- Additional Fighter: Shang Tsung
Movie Skins:
- Mortal Kombat 2 (2025): Johnny Cage, Shao Kahn, Kitana, Scorpion
- Mortal Kombat (2021): Sub-Zero
Additional Skins:
- Tournament Liu Kang
- Jean-Claude Van Damme as Johnny Cage (voice, appearance, and outfit)
- Wedding Scorpion and Empress Mileena
- Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 style for Sub-Zero and Noob Saibot
- Finishing moves Animality
- 1,250 Dragon Krystals (in-game currency)
The release of Definitive Edition follows the tradition of NetherRealm Studios, which had already adopted this strategy with Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate Edition, centralizing all content in a final package. However, the reception of Mortal Kombat 1 divided the fan base. Despite its revamped story, where Liu Kang ascends to the rank of Ancestral God, the game received criticism for the lack of game modes and for content considered shallow compared to its predecessor.
"The great combat system and chaotic narrative make a good initial impression, but the limited selection of modes prevents MK1 from achieving the perfect victory," analyzed part of the press at the time of release.
With Aftermath and the return of Animality finishing moves, NetherRealm tried to win back the audience by adding nostalgic elements from the franchise, something that worked partially. Nevertheless, the title failed to replicate the success of Mortal Kombat 11, which had a more robust campaign and better critical reception.
The new edition is a clear attempt to revitalize interest in the game, consolidating all content released so far into a final package — a strategy that has become standard in the franchise's life cycle.
