Minecraft Dungeons 2 is announced for the end of 2026
On this day 21, Mojang took advantage of the Minecraft Live stage to unveil Minecraft Dungeons 2, the direct sequel to its dungeon crawler that, honestly, was in need of a breath of fresh air. The announcement confirms that the title will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and even on portable devices in the spring of 2026. As expected from Microsoft's ecosystem strategy, the game will be available on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on the first day. It's a safe move to keep the player base engaged, but it also raises the question of whether we will see real innovations in combat mechanics or just another cubic "reskin" of what we already know.
“The next chapter of Minecraft Dungeons begins in the spring of 2026! A new threat emerges, ready to descend upon the land and its inhabitants to cause indescribable chaos.” — stated the developer during the reveal of the first trailer.
The promotional material suggests that players will need to travel through forgotten locations to face unprecedented forces of evil, a premise that sounds quite familiar to those who have explored every corner of the first game. Although the promise of "enemies like you've never faced before" is the main course, the technical execution on platforms like the Nintendo Switch 2 will be the real litmus test for Mojang, especially considering the density of particles and hordes that a game of this genre typically demands to avoid becoming monotonous. The inclusion of support for portable devices indicates a concern for accessibility, but it remains to be seen whether the depth of gameplay will keep up with this expansion of platforms or if we will be stuck in a simplistic cycle of loot and repetition that tired some veterans in the past.
