Minecraft and Valheim veterans announce Romestead, a survival city builder set in Ancient Rome
If you are a fan of survival and city building games, get ready: Romestead promises to unite the best of both worlds in a journey through Ancient Rome. The title, revealed at the Future Games Show Spring Showcase 2025, is being developed by Beartwigs and will be published by Three Friends, a new publisher formed by veterans who have worked on successes like Minecraft and Valheim.
A city in ruins and an empire to rebuild
Romestead is set in a devastated Rome, where players will need to hunt, collect resources, and craft materials to restore the city to its former glory. The game relies on pixel art and combines mechanics of building, exploration, and survival, all within a scenario strongly inspired by Roman mythology and history.
In addition to city management and material collection, Romestead will bring challenges such as dungeon exploration, colossal bosses, varied biomes, and even the possibility of receiving blessings from the Roman gods. Another point that promises to attract attention is the cooperative multiplayer mode, allowing players to face this historical journey together.
A fusion of history and mythology
The idea for the project arose from the team's passion for the genre. Sam Bloom, co-founder and developer of Beartwigs, explained:
"We wanted to create a game that merged city building and survival, but adding a historical and mythological touch. We spent a lot of time deciding on the setting, and in the end we chose Ancient Rome, one of the most iconic civilizations in history."
The Three Friends, making their debut in the market with this project, have not yet revealed the game's release date. Currently, Romestead is confirmed for PC via Early Access on Steam, allowing developers to enhance the experience with community feedback.
If you enjoy city builders with a touch of survival and mythology, Romestead can already be added to your wishlist on Steam.
