MindsEye Rated as a "Disaster" by Digital Foundry

The release of MindsEye, the debut game from Build A Rocket Boy, was classified as a "disaster" by Digital Foundry, an authority in technical analysis of games. The in-depth analysis revealed a series of performance issues, bugs, and crashes that significantly impact the player's experience on all platforms. This assessment corroborates the community's complaints and the negative reception the title has been receiving.

The flaws identified by Digital Foundry include framerate inconsistencies, low resolution, and graphic problems that affect immersion. This situation is a setback, especially considering that Build A Rocket Boy is led by Leslie Benzies, former president of Rockstar North, known for his work on franchises like Grand Theft Auto. The expectation was for a more polished release.

Promises of Correction and the Challenge of Redemption

In response to the negative reception, Build A Rocket Boy has already started releasing hotfixes. The first patch, released on June 13, 2025, weighed 5.7 GB on PC, 2 GB on PlayStation 5, and 4 GB on Xbox Series X/S, aiming to fix CPU and GPU issues, as well as memory leaks.

The developer promised more updates by the end of June, focusing on performance improvements, stability, difficulty adjustments, and AI behavior. "We are heartbroken by the issues faced by players," stated Build A Rocket Boy in a previous statement, lamenting the state of the game at launch and canceling sponsored streams.

However, Digital Foundry points out that, even with the patches, the experience still falls short of what is expected for a game released in 2025. The impact of these issues is already visible in the player base. On Steam, MindsEye reached a peak of only 3,302 simultaneous players at launch, dropping to 786 in less than 24 hours. This steep decline demonstrates the rapid loss of interest and the difficulty in player retention.

Build A Rocket Boy faces a considerable challenge in reversing the negative perception and regaining the trust of the public and specialized critics, such as Digital Foundry. The industry's history shows that problematic launches can have a lasting impact on the reputation of a studio and a new intellectual property.
