MindsEye leaks before launch and generates criticism without day 1 patch.
Physical copies of MindsEye for PS5 began circulating before the official release on June 10, 2025, raising concerns about the game's initial reception. According to reports from players who have already started their games, the version on the disc does not reflect the final product promised by the studio Build a Rocket Boy, which reiterated the importance of applying the launch patch to avoid premature judgments.
Criticism began to emerge on social media, with a focus on user @MrHazel88, who shared his experience on X (former Twitter). In his posts, he mentions frame rate drops, screen flickers when moving the camera, "washed out" visuals, and overall low sharpness. Additionally, he describes the combat as "bad" and states that the game "needs care." One of the most serious issues reported was a bug that prevents progress in the main campaign.
“It's almost like the state Mass Effect Andromeda was released in,” wrote @MrHazel88.
Amid the leaks and negative feedback, the studio Build a Rocket Boy released a statement asking players to wait for the mandatory day one update. According to the developers, the day one patch will bring critical technical improvements, bug fixes, and gameplay adjustments:
“We want everyone to experience the story the same way, at the same time, on release day — and without bias.”
The studio also highlighted that the game is being targeted by negative campaigns on social media:
“One of our co-CEOs believes there are people being paid to discredit the game online.”
In closing the statement, the team reinforces the project's ambition:
“We can't wait for you to explore MindsEye with the main campaign and the game creation system we've developed, offering new and engaging content every month.”
MindsEye, exclusive to PlayStation 5, was announced as a long-term project, with planned support for over ten years. The promise is to deliver an experience that “revolutionizes gaming”, combining cinematic storytelling with robust content creation tools.
The current episode, however, echoes previous cases like the problematic launch of Cyberpunk 2077 and reinforces the risks of evaluations based on incomplete builds. Everything now depends on the solidity of the June 10th patch — and the studio's ability to reverse the initial perception.
