Micromania anticipates price increase on Xbox consoles in Europe
The French retailer Micromania has changed the prices of the entire Xbox Series line in the last 24 hours, increasing the prices of all currently available models by €50. The change comes just a few weeks after Sony raised the price of the PlayStation 5 in various regions such as United Kingdom, continental Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
With the new prices, the Xbox Series X went from €549.99 to €599.99. The Xbox Series S 512GB increased from €299.99 to €349.99, while the 1TB model now costs €399.99, up from the previous €349.99.
The early price adjustment raised suspicions that the retailer may have anticipated an official increase not yet announced by Microsoft. The Eurogamer portal reported rumors that broader increases are being negotiated and claims to have requested an official statement from the company.
“Micromania has applied a €50 increase to all Xbox Series models.”
This move comes at a time when Microsoft reported a decline in Xbox hardware sales, as presented in the financial results of the last quarter. Nonetheless, the company's gaming division saw revenue growth, mainly driven by Game Pass, Minecraft, and Call of Duty sales.
It is worth noting that in August 2022, Sony had already adjusted the prices of the PlayStation 5 in Europe, citing “a challenging economic scenario, including high inflation and currency fluctuations”. A similar situation also affects Nintendo, which is facing market instabilities in the American market with the arrival of the Switch 2 and has already increased the price of its accessories in response to tariff changes.
Micromania's move may be a precursor to a broader adjustment in the prices of Xbox consoles in the European territory.
