Marvel Games plans to keep Insomniac as a partner for "many years"
The Marvel Games has confirmed that it will continue its long-term partnership with Insomniac Games, the studio responsible for Marvel's Spider-Man games and the upcoming Marvel's Wolverine. The general manager of Marvel Games, Haluk Mentes, expressed the commitment in an interview with GameInformer, which is a positive point for the production of high-quality titles on the PlayStation.
The Mentes was asked about Marvel's philosophy in video games, and explained that the company's responsibility is to ensure that its Intellectual Properties (IPs) are made available to the next generation of creators, following the tradition of comics:
"We have spent over a decade building Marvel Games' portfolio, and it has been fun to see the tapestry unfold game by game and see the players' reactions. [...] There is a great sense of responsibility at play here - Marvel is a creative brand of almost 90 years, but is fresher than ever because over all this time, each new generation has grown up with Marvel, ended up becoming creators and left their mark, and then passed the torch to the next generation. It so happens that we are here now, carrying this torch, and we feel that we owe it to deliver to the players and future creators, whose first encounter with Marvel may very well be one of our games."
The Mentes cited Insomniac as the perfect example of Marvel Games' collaboration philosophy, noting that a successful partner essentially becomes part of the family:
"We are also actively seeking collaborators who want to take on the same mantle. As is usually the case, once we have completed a project together, they also become 'Marvel'. Marvel's Wolverine with our dear friends at Insomniac Games is perhaps the epitome of this philosophy. We have worked together for over a decade and developed shorthand in various Marvel's Spider-Man games, and when it finally came time to bring Logan back in a spectacular and visceral way, it was obvious to everyone on our team that Insomniac was the perfect choice. It was our shared culture and values that brought us together, and we are very proud to continue collaborating for many years."
The Marvel's Wolverine will be released for PlayStation 5 in 2026. After the Marvel's Spider-Man trilogy and the development of Wolverine, Mentes emphasized that this latter will not be the final collaboration between the two companies. A report earlier this year suggested that Insomniac's next project after Wolverine would be a spin-off focused on Venom, but there has been no official confirmation from Marvel Games or Insomniac.
The general manager of Marvel Games, Haluk Mentes, confirmed that the partnership with Insomniac Games will continue "for many years" after the release of Marvel's Wolverine for PS5 in 2026. Mentes cited the success of Marvel's Spider-Man and the shared values as motivations for the ongoing collaboration, suggesting that the next project has not been officially confirmed as a spin-off of Venom.
