Loading Studios donates February sales to storm victims
The Portuguese developer Loading Studios announced that it will convert the revenue from its main titles into humanitarian aid after the devastating passage of the storm Kristin through central Portugal. Throughout the month of February, 100% of the profits obtained from the sales of Alentejo: Tinto’s Law and its sequel, Alentejo: The Tinto & The Ugly, will be destined for the recovery of the regions of Leiria and Marinha Grande, severely affected by the meteorological phenomenon in the last week of January.
The games, which celebrate Iberian culture with a retro Game Boy aesthetic, will serve as a mobilization tool. The funds raised will be channeled to local organizations and reconstruction projects that address the immediate needs of the communities. Loading Studios, led by Vasco Oliveira, emphasizes that the social impact of video games can be a positive differential in times of public calamity, encouraging active participation of players and partners in the cause.
The storm Kristin left a trail of destruction with record winds and floods, forcing the activation of several municipal emergency plans. For those who wish to contribute beyond buying the games, there are direct support channels:
Alentejo Solidarity Bundle: Available on the itch.io platform, including the two volumes of the saga inspired by 19th-century Alentejo.
Caritas Diocesana de Leiria: Accepts direct donations through its online emergency fund.
Local Collection Points: Municipal Pavilion of Pousos (Leiria) and Nery Capucho School Pavilion (Marinha Grande).
The initiative of Loading Studios — previously awarded for the project The Fisherman: A Codfish Tale in the Games for Good category — demonstrates how the national independent industry can react promptly to social crises. It is news that balances the scenario of material losses with an effort of unity from the Portuguese technical and creative community.
