Lies of P, a soulslike title developed by the South Korean studio NEOWIZ, will receive a significant update package in the coming months. Among the new features is the introduction of adjustable difficulty options, something unprecedented in the game, as well as the release of the expansion Lies of P: Overture, which will be available for free still in this summer of 2025.

The game, originally released in 2023, was widely praised for its environment inspired by Bloodborne and for its fidelity to the classic mechanics of the soulslike genre, which also brought criticisms about its high difficulty. Now, after a significant volume of community feedback, the developers have decided to broaden the game's reach to less experienced audiences.

"We wanted to ensure that a broader audience could play the game," said Jiwon Choi, director of Lies of P. "We received a lot of feedback from players and our own development team, and with these difficulty adjustments, we can offer the experience to different types of players. This expands our player base."

With the update, the game will now feature three difficulty levels:

  • Legendary Stalker (standard difficulty, equivalent to the current one)
  • Butterfly's Guidance (easier mode)
  • Awakened Puppet (even more accessible mode)
  • In addition, the update will bring two new challenging modes:
  • Battle Memories, which will allow replaying bosses with up to five difficulty variations, including ultra difficult modes.
  • Death March, a boss rush mode in which the player faces multiple bosses with limited life and items.

Both modes will bring new rewards, which have not been detailed by NEOWIZ.

As for the content of the expansion Lies of P: Overture, presented as a prequel, it will address the final events in the city of Krat before the main game's story. The DLC will feature new weapons, including sharp claws, a gunblade, and a bow with long-range attacks, expanding the range of combat strategies available to the player.

Lies of P: Overture was initially suggested in 2023, along with the confirmation of a sequel in development. The full revelation of the DLC occurred in early 2025.

The discussion about accessibility in soulslike games gained strength after statements by Hidetaka Miyazaki, creator of Dark Souls and Elden Ring, who stated that reducing the difficulty of his games would "break the experience." Unlike FromSoftware, which maintains challenge as a central pillar, Lies of P now joins other studios seeking to make their works more accessible without compromising the essence.

With the arrival of the DLC and the new difficulty options, Lies of P takes an important step towards a more diverse audience, maintaining its identity but with a more flexible approach for those who want to explore the dark universe of Krat.
