Let It Die: Inferno confirms substantial use of generative AI in key elements
The game Let it Die: Inferno, the sequel to the 2016 action title from Grasshopper, scheduled to be released next week (December 4th), revealed that it was built with a considerable amount of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The Steam page for Let it Die: Inferno now includes the disclosure: "AI-generated content was used and then edited by our team for certain parts of the voices, music, and graphics within the game." The specifically outlined elements include background textures, record illustrations, infocast videos and voices, and music.
While the exact degree of AI usage in each of these areas is not known, the listed fields — art, video, voice, and music — are extensive, suggesting that the use of AI in the game may be substantial.
Let it Die: Inferno is entirely developed by Supertrick Games, co-developer of the original game, without the involvement of Grasshopper. The main focus of the game has slightly shifted to PvEvP, incorporating real-time multiplayer. The title was announced just a few months ago, during a PlayStation State of Play in September, which may indicate that the project was rushed to release, a result that AI could help achieve.
The disclosure was only possible due to Steam's transparency policy regarding AI usage, serving as a useful tool for consumers. On the other hand, prominent figures like Epic Games CEO, Tim Sweeney, believe that AI usage will be so common that it won't "make sense" to require all games to disclose how the technology was utilized.
