Lens arrives in Japan in August with a cursed camera and special versions for PS and Switch
The new psychological horror game Lens, developed by Orgesta and published by Nippon Ichi Software, will be released on August 28, 2025 exclusively for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch in the Japanese market. There is still no official confirmation on the release date for the western market or the age rating in other regions.
The story revolves around Hayato Tsukumo, a journalist for the occult magazine Aghastia, who, after installing a cursed camera app, finds himself involved in a series of paranormal events. To survive, he must investigate the origin of the curse, exploring cemeteries, shrines, and abandoned houses, while using his cellphone to photograph and record spirits, revealing essential clues for his salvation.
"With the cellphone in hand, he photographs spirits and records supernatural videos that may contain crucial clues to break the curse," reveals the studio in the presentation material.
The gameplay focuses on exploration, narrative suspense, and camera mechanics, requiring quick decisions - any mistake or hesitation intensifies the effects of the curse. The game also features secondary characters such as Hikari Saotome, editor-in-chief of Aghastia, and Shinichirou Nitta, a rookie journalist.
In addition to the standard edition, Lens will have limited editions that include artbook, CD with original soundtrack, thematic amulets, and collectible keychains, reinforcing the appeal to fans of the genre.
The project joins other recent initiatives by Nippon Ichi Software to explore dark narratives with emotional depth and immersive gameplay. It is expected that the confirmation of the international release will be made in the coming months, possibly after the Tokyo Game Show 2025.
