Kojima reveals Physint cast with announcement for 2030
Kojima Productions has revealed the first details of its next exclusive game for PlayStation, Physint. Although the announcement generated excitement, the news comes with a significant caveat that may test the patience of fans: the project is still in its early stages and may be "five or six years" away from its release.
Hideo Kojima, the director, confirmed the embryonic nature of Physint development at a 10-year studio event in Japan. According to him, the project is "just beginning" and he is working alone on the concepts, characters, and casting. The news, reported in May by Le Film Francais, suggests a launch in 2030 or even later, perhaps even for the PlayStation 6. The game is the next big project after OD, which already signals a long wait.
For long-time fans, the most significant revelation is the game's genre. Kojima described Physint as a tactical action espionage game, a direct return to the roots he established with the Metal Gear franchise while at Konami. This will be the director's first foray into the genre since leaving Konami in 2015, promising a new chapter in his industry legacy.
The announcement, which was supported by a message from Herman Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment's Studio Business Group, also revealed the initial cast of Physint. Three actors were confirmed and sent messages of support: Charlee Fraser, known for her role in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga; Don Lee, from Marvel's Eternals; and Japanese actress Minami Hamabe, from Godzilla Minus One. A debut poster was released, with the phrase "here comes the feeling," and a CG image of Minami Hamabe showcased the visual realism to expect from the project, although the game engine has not been revealed yet.
Kojima stated that the technology behind Physint will be more advanced than that used in Death Stranding and OD, a fact that, according to him, is justified by the more distant release schedule. Kojima Productions has not yet revealed which game engine will be used for the project, but the promise of cutting-edge visuals reinforces the director's ambition to take the espionage experience to a new technical level.
The announcement of Physint is a glimpse into the future of Kojima Productions, with a return to the genre that made its creator famous and a promising cast. However, the confirmation that development is just beginning and the wait of "five or six years" for release serve as a reminder that Kojima's ambitious vision requires time and patience from the community.
