Kojima envisions Physint for 2030 and plans a movie as the next step
As Death Stranding 2: On the Beach approaches its release on November 8, 2025, Hideo Kojima is already planning the next years of his career — and the wait will be long. In an interview with the website Le Film Français, the director revealed that Physint, his new action and espionage game, will still take five to six years to be released. In other words, the title may only arrive between 2030 and 2031.
"In addition to Death Stranding 2, Physint is in development. It will take another five or six years. But maybe after that, I can finally decide to make a movie. I grew up with cinema. Directing would be a kind of homage to it. Also, I'm getting older and I prefer to do this while I'm still young!"
The comment reinforces Kojima's long-standing intention to move into cinema — something that has become increasingly visible since Death Stranding (2019), where the director used a star-studded cast with names like Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, and Mads Mikkelsen, as well as the special participation of Guillermo del Toro. In Death Stranding 2, George Miller appears as one of the creative collaborators. Meanwhile, in OD, a horror project in development with Xbox Game Studios, Jordan Peele is directly involved in the direction, alongside Kojima.
Little is known about Physint other than the promise of being a spiritual successor to Metal Gear, the franchise that established Kojima in the stealth-action genre. The new game is being developed by Kojima Productions, but there are still no details about the plot, gameplay, or platforms.
The production of Physint is only expected to accelerate after the completion of work on Death Stranding 2, and considering the studio's standards and the complexity of Kojima's projects, the development cycle could indeed extend until the end of the decade. As a result, the idea of a feature film signed by him is also likely to be postponed until after 2030.
Hideo Kojima, who founded Kojima Productions in 2015 after leaving Konami, had previously indicated in statements that he wanted to expand his activities beyond games. The new espionage project may be the last major production before this definitive transition to cinema — or perhaps the turning point between the two worlds.
