June brings major new additions and classics to the PS Plus catalog.
Players subscribed to the most expensive plan, the PS Plus Deluxe, received a nostalgic treat with the return of Gitaroo Man, a classic rhythm game now featuring updated versions for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. On the flip side, the ongoing shuffle of subscription services remains strong, with Sony already starting to update the “Last Chance to Play” section. This means several titles will disappear from the catalog in July, forcing users to purchase the game separately if they wish to continue playing. This aggressive turnover is a significant downside of these services, as you're never truly an owner and are subject to the distributor's contractual terms.
The monthly update for the PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Deluxe plans is now available for download, featuring a mix of farming simulators, deep RPGs, and narrative-driven adventures. The platform’s selection nailed it by adding Final Fantasy XVI, the latest installment of the acclaimed Square Enix franchise, allowing exploration of Valisthea without additional charges. This addition benefits consumers' wallets but highlights how the traditional sales cycle for these massive titles has shortened to spur faster inclusion in subscription services.
Sharing the spotlight among this month’s substantial downloads, the official list for the PS Plus Extra plan includes the following games:
Final Fantasy XVI (PS5)
Sonic x Shadow Generations (PS5 and PS4)
Kingdom Come: Deliverance (PS5 and PS4)
Life is Strange: Double Exposure (PS5)
Farming Simulator 25 (PS5)
Blades of Fire (PS5)
Black Desert (PS5)
Another notable inclusion in the package is Sonic x Shadow Generations, which combines the remastered classic game featuring the blue hedgehog with new content focusing on the anti-hero Shadow. The catalog also expanded with the realistic RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance and the enigmatic Life is Strange: Double Exposure, alongside niche titles like Farming Simulator 25, Blades of Fire, and the MMORPG Black Desert. The variety of genres is pleasing, but subscribers need to be mindful of managing the limited storage space of their console.
