"It wasn't a game, it was a lifestyle," says the actor about his 400 hours in the Rockstar epic

If there's a game that has captivated millions of players around the world, Red Dead Redemption 2 is that title. And among the most dedicated fans is none other than Jack Black, who recently revealed his deep passion for the Rockstar Games game. During an interview for ComicBook, while promoting the movie Minecraft: The Movie, Jack Black and Jason Momoa discussed their experiences with video games – and that's when a big surprise came up.

400 hours in Red Dead Redemption 2 – and no regrets

When asked about his favorite games, Jack Black had no doubts in pointing out Red Dead Redemption 2 as one of the best experiences of his life. The actor revealed that he delved deeply into the game's universe, accumulating over 400 hours during the pandemic.

"It was during the pandemic. I played Red Dead Redemption 2 and lived inside the game. It wasn't a game. It was a lifestyle. I accumulated 400 hours, it was a lot, and I have no regrets. It was a lot of fun. That world is beautiful, an incredible universe they created."

While Jack Black was getting emotional talking about the Rockstar western epic, his interview colleague, Jason Momoa, dropped a bombshell: he had never heard of the game. Jack Black's reaction was instantaneous.

"Dude, you've never heard of Rockstar Games? These guys are artists. You have to play, it will change your life. If you're going to play just one game, it has to be this one!"

But Momoa explained that he avoids this type of game for a very specific reason: he easily gets addicted and, if he started, he probably wouldn't be able to stop. Jack Black, already knowing the dangers of getting lost in the virtual Old West, agreed.

"It's probably for the best. You get lost there. I'd stay there for years."

Momoa and his gamer side: Street Fighter and favorite characters

Even without knowing Red Dead Redemption 2, Jason Momoa is not completely unfamiliar with the world of games. During the conversation, he revealed that he has played a lot of Street Fighter, and even shared his favorite characters.

"I have two. Ryu and Blanka."

While Jack Black was sinking into the digital Old West of Rockstar, Momoa was spending his time unleashing Hadoukens and electric shocks on opponents.

The influence of Red Dead Redemption 2 on pop culture

It's no secret that Red Dead Redemption 2 has a huge impact on gamer culture. Since its release in 2018, the game has sold over 61 million copies, being one of the most acclaimed titles of the last decade. The level of immersion, the cinematic narrative, and the absurd details of the open world make players like Jack Black completely absorbed by the experience.

While some, like Black, turn the game into a true lifestyle, others, like Momoa, prefer to keep their distance to avoid falling into the trap of addiction. But one thing is certain: Red Dead Redemption 2 continues to be one of the most impactful titles in the history of video games – and a game that, according to Jack Black, "everyone should play at least once in their life".
