However, the developer Nightmare Forge Games has decided to change the game's name after allegations that the term referenced neo-Nazi ideologies.
The company released a statement explaining the original choice of the name:
The horror title has already been updated on Steam and is available for wishlisting, although there is still no confirmed release date with a window set for 2024."Our game 'Infestation 88' is set in the 1980s, with the year 1988 chosen due to its symmetrical design in the game's art/logo. Unfortunately, we were unaware of any additional meanings the number '88' carries. However, after learning about it, we are changing the game's name to 'Infestation: Origins.' We apologize for our ignorance on this matter and appreciate that it has been brought to our attention so we could address it as quickly as possible!"
