Horizon MMO Cancelled by NCSoft, But Guerrilla Games Continues with Online Project
NCSoft, known for its big titles in the MMO genre, would have canceled the project of a massive game based on the Horizon Zero Dawn franchise. Provisionally named Project H, development was terminated at the end of 2024, according to internal company information.
Rumors about the MMO emerged in November 2022, when speculations indicated a collaboration between Sony and NCSoft. However, the project was never publicly announced, and now has been included in a list of games discontinued by NCSoft after a feasibility review.
Games Canceled by NCSoft:
- Pantera (Raise Lineage M)
- H (Project H - Horizon MMO)
- J
“Games under the responsibility of CBO Lee Seong-gu, including Pantera, H and J, were terminated as a result of an internal analysis. Teams were notified for internal transfers in early 2025,” revealed an internal statement.
Despite the cancellation of Project H, the Horizon universe will still have a presence in the online multiplayer genre. Guerrilla Games, original developer of the franchise, continues to work on a game known as Horizon Online. The title has suffered leaks of gameplay in the past, but has received criticism due to its visual direction and gameplay.
Meanwhile, fans of Horizon await news about the future of the series, which remains one of the pillars of Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Do you think an MMO based on the world of Horizon would have been successful or was the decision to focus on other formats the right one?
