Hollow Knight: Silksong arrives in 2025, says Team Cherry

After years of silence, Team Cherry confirmed that Hollow Knight: Silksong will be released before the end of 2025. The confirmation came shortly after the trailer shown at the Xbox Games Showcase, ending a cycle of speculation fueled by clues, events, and even absurd theories involving cakes and fake recipes.

The official announcement was made by Matthew Griffon, a representative of the team, in the game's official Discord server:
“I confirmed BEFORE holiday – we are not tied to a console release.”
The statement clarifies that the release will not be linked to the debut of the Xbox ROG Ally, Microsoft's new handheld, although Sarah Bond mentioned Silksong as playable on the device during the event.

The confusion arose precisely because of this appearance at the end of the ROG Ally presentation, leading part of the community to believe that there would be synchrony between the releases. This is not the case. According to Griffon, the game will be released independently, unrelated to the schedule of the new Xbox hardware.

The community, hungry for any updates for years, experienced a true rollercoaster of speculation. In May, the Silksong page on Steam was updated, generating rumors. Before that, the game was listed as playable in September 2025 at a museum event in Australia. The title had also been included in Nintendo Directs, with a guaranteed presence on Switch 1 and Switch 2.

The history of delays and the lack of concrete information left the fan base exhausted. An emblematic episode was the "cake theory," in which fans interpreted a posted recipe as a release clue — a theory later denied by Team Cherry.

Even with the new confirmation, there is no exact date. Griffon's statement uses the expression "before holiday," which leaves room for interpretation. On the Silksong subreddit, the reaction was mixed. One user ironically pointed out:
“Notice how he didn't say Holiday 2025.”

Despite the jokes and skepticism from some fans, the fact that the confirmation came after a major official event like the Xbox Games Showcase adds more reliability to the information. However, given Team Cherry's history, the possibility of further delays cannot be ruled out.

Meanwhile, the game remains promised for multiple platforms, including PC, Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 1 and 2. The question now is whether, this time, the wait — which has been going on since 2019 — will actually end before the end-of-year holiday season.
