Hideo Kojima works "alone" at the beginning of the Physint development.

The acclaimed designer Hideo Kojima revealed that Physint, his new Metal Gear-style game, is still in the early stages of development, to the point where he is working on it "completely alone". The project, announced in January of last year for PlayStation, was described as a "next-gen" espionage game.

The development of Physint was scheduled to start "seriously" after the release of Death Stranding 2, which is already available. In an interview with Indiewire, Kojima explained that he is still focused on Death Stranding 2, analyzing player data to decide "where to fix and what to fix". He also has a busy schedule of interviews and promotions, which makes him feel like he has not "finished" the game yet.

In addition to Physint, Kojima is also working on OD, his horror project with Xbox, announced in December 2023. "I'm also starting to work with the team on OD, because it's a new project," he said, before confirming that he is "doing Physint completely alone because it's in the concept phase". The initial status of the project is not a surprise, as in May, Kojima had revealed that the game would take "another five or six years" to complete.

Physint is a particularly important project for Kojima. He described it as a "culmination of my work" and said that his goal is to "transcend the barriers between film and videogames". The project was born during a period of illness and surgery, when Kojima thought about his mortality and decided to change his priorities to do something that fans had been asking for for years.

Death Stranding 2 was well received, with Eurogamer describing it as a "busier, noisier, and more emotionally resplendent version of this unique walking simulator". With possible ports and a Death Stranding anime on the way, the series still has a lot to offer.
