Helldivers 2 developers respond to criticism about the price of the Killzone 2 crossover
As it has been said, Helldivers 2 had the arrival of a collab with Killzone 2, an exclusive game for PlayStation, which was kept in Sony's drawers and now has a brief appearance in the new game through the brand's service.
The skins that were released are indeed interesting, with details from the game and even weapons. However, one detail left some fans discouraged, as the prices were a bit too high. As a result, fans criticized the prices, leading Arrowhead Game Studios to comment on it.
Normally, the extra content is unlocked through a Warbond that costs 1000 Super Credits (£7.99), which includes various weapons, armor, and cosmetic items. The items from Killzone 2 are available for purchase separately, with all six items totaling 1,975 Super Credits - so two sets of 1000 Super Credits totaling £15.98, essentially doubling the price.
Individually, the StA-52 assault rifle costs 615 Super Credits (the most expensive item) and the AC-1 Dutiful armor costs 500 Super Credits.
The creative director of Helldivers 2, Johan Pilestedt, responded to a player on X who said that the price "definitely seemed high.".
"Sorry you felt the price was steep, we are looking at all feedback," Pilestedt replied. "The reason we changed it from a Warbond was actually because there were concerns that having a higher priced Warbond would carry negative sentiment."
Certainly, Arrowhead Game Studios has proven to be very attentive to what its audience asks for, mainly because this must be one of the biggest requirements to keep an online game running for years, so shortly after, the CEO of the developer, Shams Jorjani, spoke with some users about the direction the game is going, and since it is only the first collaboration of the game, it will lead the developers to learn from each advancement.
"Hey, a quick comment on the Helghast stuff. Firstly, this is our first collaboration, so we'll figure it out as we go. Tell us what you'd like to see in the future," he said. "Secondly, it's optional. The more we sell, the more Illuminate-type stuff we can continue to release for free."
Later, he added: "That was my way of saying that the better the game is, the more we can do."
The CEO also made it clear that even though they have a partnership with Sony, the price was chosen by the studio itself, stating: "This one's on us."
