GTA VI must run at 30 FPS on the console, says former Rockstar employee

Since its first trailer was released, many experts have talked about the processing power that might be needed to run Grand Theft Auto VI, the next massive title that Rockstar Games is cooking up in the most secretive way possible, and that can be interesting to think about, especially when a former employee of the company joins the discussions.

Knowing that the game will be released later this year, a former animator from the company shared his opinion on the game and its performance on current consoles!

Speaking on Kiwi Talkz, Mike York shares his expectations after being asked if Rockstar Games will aim for 30 fps or 60 fps for GTA6. "I don't know if they will manage to achieve 60 fps", says York. "I think not. I think they will aim for 30 fps — and locked at 30 fps, which means it never drops below that. They will try to optimize as much as they can so it never goes below 30. But it could go up to 40, 41, 52, whatever, and I bet, like, later on, when it's on PC, it will probably be super optimized and changed and new graphics cards that are released and you will be able to run it at 60 fps probably by then."

Currently, the latest titles from Rockstar Games run very well on current consoles, however, many of them had a good amount of time to be optimized, not to mention that Rockstar Games must have unrestricted access to new technologies, being able to test them in their games.

There are doubts about the Xbox Series S, which is the weaker sibling of this generation and the game may not reach as far, but it's worth noting that Rockstar Games has had some success in optimizing games for weaker consoles, as GTA V was initially released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, which obviously had lower processing power, and even though they didn't reach 60 FPS, they still provided a great experience.

The same goes for Red Dead Redemption 2, which was released for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and even though struggling, the consoles still managed to deliver a great experience that was enhanced when it arrived on current consoles.

This means that Rockstar Games knows what they're doing and it would only be a problem if the developers did it very poorly on purpose.

Theories about the release of GTA VI are still circulating, we've gone a whole year without a new trailer and so far nothing, just that the game is expected to arrive by the end of the year, along with confirmations from Take-Two Interactive that the release is still set for 2025.

All we can do now is hope that the game arrives soon and that we can explore it to the fullest, especially with the new technologies that have been developed over the years.
