In an interview with the portal IGN, Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar Games and one of the minds behind Grand Theft Auto, advocated for the continuation of physical media. The developer emphasized that as long as there is a portion of the community interested in purchasing discs, companies should keep this option available in the market.

He acknowledges the natural shift towards digital consumption driven by the pursuit of convenience but reinforces that the preservation of tangible formats addresses a legitimate demand that deserves attention.

Producer Lazlow, Houser's partner in founding Absurd Ventures, participated in the conversation and emphasized having a strong sentimental attachment to physical media editions.

Although he admits the convenience of downloading a title directly to a portable console during a trip, the producer highlighted that working with physical products — like the comic books launched by the duo's new company — provides a tactile value and creative satisfaction that exclusively virtual media will never be able to replicate.

Houser also pointed out that digital distribution has brought clear logistical benefits to developers, such as the ability to swiftly apply updates and fix errors soon after a project's release.

Attempting to push consumers towards an entirely digital model removes the autonomy of those who value actual ownership of a product. Hearing historical figures in the industry advocate for a balance between download convenience and respect for collectors shows that the industry still has voices willing to defend the player's interest against market pressures.
