GTA 6 will incorporate heists into the story progression
Linking free-form capital accumulation with the release of chapters of the main campaign is a bold design choice that adds real weight to heist mechanics, compelling players to experience the life of crime through strategic planning rather than treating missions as mere optional chores. According to details released by the portal Multiplayer.it, Rockstar Games has structured the crime system in Grand Theft Auto 6 at varying levels of complexity, requiring players' wallets to reach specific amounts to advance the narrative.
This financial requirement during key moments directly echoes the classic Bomb Da Base: Act II mission from GTA 3, making the pursuit of money a crucial element to unlock the protagonists' next steps in the campaign.
To ensure the necessary resources, the developer has divided illicit approaches by risk and reward. At the base of this structure are robberies of smaller establishments, such as convenience stores, pawn shops, and cell phone repair stores, which act as quick actions with low returns and often lack markers on the map.
As the difficulty scale rises, the game introduces targeted assaults on cash transport vans and armored vehicles, where enhanced security demands more preparation and offers bigger rewards to criminals.
The most advanced level involves heists at jewelry stores and banks, where Rockstar Games requires planning similar to that seen in GTA 5: players need to obtain access codes, crack safes, and decide on entry methods. During presentations, the studio emphasized that using explosives speeds up the escape but risks damaging the haul, while cracking combinations ensures full payment but extends the operation time and makes it easier for the police to arrive.
At the height of profitability and danger are the operations conducted within territories dominated by rival gangs. One of these operational complexes has even been announced as exclusive content for the game's Ultimate Edition.
The heist missions can be executed individually with Jason or Lucia, or with the duo working together, directly affecting the dynamics and relationship between the two main characters.
Similar to Red Dead Redemption 2, after the heist, specialized fences must be sought on the map, divided between professionals who accept jewels and buyers focused on stolen vehicles.
Police intelligence will react dynamically during the action, capable of surrounding the building perimeter and setting up a blockade outside, forcing the duo to create escape routes in real-time to get away without losing their loot.
Making robberies a pillar of the main campaign and requiring real planning for fencing goods enhances the immersion in the Grand Theft Auto 6 universe. On the flip side, imposing narrative flow blocks to compel coin accumulation might cause inconvenient interruptions to the storyline's pacing, while tying specific gang territories to an Ultimate Edition showcases an aggressive commercial tactic by Rockstar Games that limits the base version's content for consumers.
