GTA 6 still has no date on PC, but Take-Two reinforces the importance of the platform.
While waiting for Grand Theft Auto VI to be released, Take-Two Interactive emphasized the relevance of PC in the current market, but still did not confirm a release date for the platform. The game will arrive first on consoles, as expected, but a version for computers remains shrouded in mystery.
Take-Two's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, pointed out that launching GTA 6 simultaneously on all platforms would be a major challenge. This is not surprising when it comes to Rockstar Games, which historically prioritize consoles before bringing their games to PC.
It was the same with Grand Theft Auto V, which arrived on PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013 and was only released for PC two years later, in April 2015. Red Dead Redemption 2 followed a similar path, arriving on PC over a year after its release on consoles.
Take-Two knows that PC has become an essential market, accounting for more than 40% of sales of its multiplatform games. "We've seen the PC become a much more important part than it used to be in a console-focused business, and I wouldn't be surprised if this trend continued," said Zelnick in a recent interview.
Regardless of the release schedule, GTA 6 will be a game that will drive the hardware market. Whenever a new Grand Theft Auto arrives, console and graphics card sales skyrocket, as players want to enjoy the graphics at their highest quality.
The game is set in "Leonida", a fictional version of Florida, and promises a level of graphic detail never before seen in the franchise. This has many players already planning an upgrade to run it with the best possible performance.
The biggest issue? The difficulty in finding latest generation GPUs at affordable prices, due to scarcity and Nvidia's practice of initially releasing few units, which ends up favoring scalpers.
Despite rumors of possible tariffs in the US that could affect the technology industry, Take-Two does not believe this will have a significant impact on console sales. Zelnick highlights that there are other giant games coming in 2025, which will keep the market hot even with fierce competition.
For now, Rockstar remains absolutely silent about a PC version, but fans' expectations remain high. If the company's history is any indication, it is likely that the game will arrive first on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a PC edition arriving months - or years - later, possibly better optimized and full of graphical improvements.
And you, do you think Rockstar will repeat the GTA V strategy, or this time the PC release may happen faster?
