GTA 6 could be the first AAAA game, says veteran

The co-founder of Devolver Digital, Nigel Lowrie, caught the attention of the gaming industry by predicting that Grand Theft Auto 6 could be the first "AAAAA" game in history. The prediction, made in an interview with IGN, highlights the immense impact that the new title from Rockstar is expected to have on the market.

Lowrie argued that the scale and cultural impact of GTA 6 are "simply larger than anything else, both in the scope and scale of the game and in the type of cultural impact it has and the attention it demands." The public's attention to the game has been so great that, according to Adam Lieb, CEO of Gamesight, "GTA has been part of almost every conversation about release dates that I have heard in the past year and a half."

The game, set to be released in 2026, is positioning itself as an event that could overshadow not only other titles of the same year, but also previous releases in the history of the industry. However, the term "AAAAA" raises a critical point about the state of the industry. The "quintuple A" rating has already been used for marketing purposes in relation to Skull & Bones, which despite being a game "like no other," had a troubled release and was widely criticized.

The attempt to create a new category for GTA 6 can be seen as another marketing move that the game really does not need, considering that its legacy already speaks for itself. The true test for GTA 6 will not be its rating, but rather if it will be able to justify the immense attention and expectations surrounding it.
