God of War Ragnarok Gets Its First Game of the Year Award from TIME Magazine
It starts.
With the end of 2022 approaching, conversation among gaming enthusiasts is turning to the awards season. What will be crowned Game of the Year? At this stage, we're willing to bet hobbyists are split between FromSoftware's beloved Elden Ring and Sony's fantastic sequel, God of War Ragnarok. The latter of these two huge action games has just scooped up its first nod for the top title of 2022.
TIME magazine has just published its top 10 list, and sitting at number one is Kratos and Atreus' second outing. It rose above the likes of Horizon Forbidden West, The Quarry, and yes, Elden Ring to secure the win. TIME's Richard Newby says Ragnarok is "what all action-adventure games should aspire towards", praising its storytelling and visuals above all else.
This follows FromSoft's massive RPG getting the GOTY award at this year's Golden Joysticks, which is decided by public vote.
Both games are nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards, which is widely considered the decider on these things. They're joined by fellow nominees Horizon Forbidden West, A Plague Tale: Requiem, Stray, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
