Gears of War: Reloaded arrives in August with a free upgrade

A The Coalition, in partnership with Sumo Interactive and Disbelief, officially announced Gears of War: Reloaded, a complete remaster of the original classic, with a release date set for August 26, 2025. The new edition celebrates the 20 years of the franchise and will be available for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and via Game Pass at launch.

With a suggested price of US$39.99, the title promises to be the definitive version of the game, bringing together all the content from the original version, the extras from the Ultimate Edition, as well as significant graphic and technical improvements. Among the confirmed features are:

• 4K Resolution
• 60 FPS in the campaign
• 120 FPS in multiplayer
• HDR (High Dynamic Range)
• Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos 7.1.4
• 3D Spatial Audio
• Variable Refresh Rate (VRR)
• Remastered textures and features in 4K
• Enhanced post-processing visual effects
• Improved shadows and reflections
• Anti-aliasing with super resolution
• Complete elimination of loading screens in the campaign
   

In addition, the game will have multiplayer with cross-play support across all platforms, and split-screen mode for 2 players. A Microsoft account will not be required to play online, unless the player wants to invite friends from other platforms — a welcome change from previous forced login practices in other company games.

Players who have already purchased the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition digitally before April 5, 2025 will receive a free update to the new version, aligning with the recent stance of some publishers to avoid paid re-releases for technically enhanced versions.

The revelation comes alongside the anticipation for Gears of War: E-Day, the next original title in the franchise announced at the last Xbox showcase. While the new game has no date yet, Reloaded emerges as a bridge between the 2006 classic and the promising future of the series.
