Gaming market registers shifts in leadership positions
Keeping an eye on the talent shifts and executive restructuring within the gaming industry’s studios is crucial to grasping the new investment and development strategies in the sector. The latest market updates showcase notable hirings and historical exits of executives at major global producers and distributors.
1Up Ventures has announced the onboarding of Amir Satvat as a general partner. Amir Satvat previously served as director of business development at Tencent Games and is known for spearheading the Always Supporting the Games Community (ASGC) initiative, which focuses on assisting sector professionals with job placement.
The executive pointed out that the transition aims to focus on direct support for independent studios and expanding opportunities for small development teams.
Significant changes are also being observed in the leadership of partner companies:
Lasse Seppänen has departed from Supercell after a seven-year tenure. The professional served as the general manager of Supercell’s London division and plans to establish his own studio in the UK in 2027.
Take-Two Interactive hired Giles Derrington as director of institutional relations in the UK, hailing from public affairs leadership at TikTok.
Housemarque announced the retirement of co-founder and general director Ilari Kuittinen after 31 years with the company. The operational transition began in July, with Sami Hakala taking the helm of the PlayStation Studios subsidiary.
Tamara Feiman has been promoted to CEO of Lion Studios, a company owned by Tripledot Studios, after six years in publishing and expansion roles.
In the communications and marketing arena, Epic Games confirmed the hiring of Kelly Ekins as communications director. The professional brings leadership experience in Public Relations at Unity and previous roles at Warner Bros. Games Montreal.
Conversely, Kepler Interactive promoted Jess Pearce to senior partner in human resources, while PlaySimple Games announced the elevation of Shreya Godha to the role of producer.
Sega of America strengthened its network team by bringing in Heather Sangria for community management, following her stints at One More Game and Undead Labs.
Finally, Activision Blizzard made internal restructurings within the Call of Duty franchise team, promoting Emily Rose Chen to senior product manager and Scot McCarron to the role of senior director of product management.
The introduction of figures focused on community initiatives and support for smaller studios at 1Up Ventures presents an invaluable addition to rejuvenating the investment ecosystem. On the flip side, the ongoing departure of historical founders and creative minds at established studios such as Housemarque and Supercell evokes the inevitable fear of losing identity in productions, while the major publishers continue to expand their corporate and product management teams.
