Game Pass gets new additions and loses titles this week

Microsoft decided to tweak the Xbox Game Pass catalog between March 30 and April 3, bringing a blend of awaited returns and debuts that attempt to justify recent changes in subscription plans. While some titles arrive to give the service an extra boost, others pack their bags to leave the library on the 31st of this month, which forces the player to hurry up if they want to finish anything from the farewell list. It’s that eternal cycle of rotation that, although keeping the service fresh, often removes significant games right when the user decides to start the campaign.

This week's curation focuses on variety, but the inclusion of games that were previously available, like Capcom’s horror classic, shows the company still relies on past hits to fill gaps of new releases. The official announcement came with that usual corporate tone to try to gloss over the exit of other projects:

“Welcome back! We have even more games arriving for you, including some fan favorites, new options for Premium plan players, and game updates that you might have missed. Let’s get straight to the point!” — highlighted the Xbox team while detailing the additions in this round.

Check out the full list of who is joining the game:

  • The Long Dark (cloud, console and PC) – March 30 – Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium and PC Game Pass
  • Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (cloud, console and PC) – March 31 – Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium and PC Game Pass
  • Barbie Horse Trails (cloud, console, handheld and PC) – April 2 – Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium and PC Game Pass
  • Clair Obscur Expedition 33 (cloud, Xbox Series X|S, handheld and PC) – April 2 – now on Xbox Game Pass Premium (already available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass)

The arrival of Clair Obscur Expedition 33 to the Premium plan is a strategic move to try to add value to the service’s most expensive category, which often seems to lack real differentiators for console players. Meanwhile, the inclusion of Barbie Horse Trails is intended to attract a casual and younger audience, balancing out the dark weight of The Long Dark and the bizarre elements of the Baker family. However, there’s criticism about the fragmentation of the plans; users need to be mindful not to find out, when downloading, that the desired game requires a subscription upgrade which doesn’t always fit into the monthly budget.

This weekly maneuvering is what keeps community engagement high, but the balance between what enters and what leaves needs careful attention to ensure the perceived value of the Game Pass does not start to decline. The return of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is excellent for those who haven’t yet faced the first-person scares, but for veteran players, it seems like recycled content that should already be permanent on the platform. The service dynamic in 2026 appears increasingly aimed at consolidating the Ultimate plan as the only truly complete option, leaving other tiers in a state of constant content limitation.
