The United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) remains steadfast in its determination to block Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard, recently announcing its intention to return the case to trial. In a dispatch published recently, the FTC took a step forward in its legal battle against the planned acquisition.
The FTC's decision is documented in papers that recap past events and resolutions from previous hearings, concluding with a section requesting that the case be reopened for discussion. The FTC justified its action based on the public interest and its pursuit of a swift and comprehensive resolution to the matter.
According to the order, the evidentiary hearing related to this case will commence twenty-one days after the issuance of an opinion by the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit regarding the appeal of the district court's decision involving the requested injunction.
Notably, Chief Administrative Law Judge D. Michael Chappell determined that the hearing will be conducted virtually, and the FTC pledged to ensure adequate public access as stipulated by relevant regulations.
Lulu Cheng Meservey, Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Chief Communications Officer at Activision Blizzard, responded to the news in a tweet, stating that the company will continue to collaborate with Microsoft to complete the deal.
The FTC has demonstrated its unwavering resolve to terminate this acquisition deal, despite the developments over the past year.
